PROGRAM:

Pavilion design

CLIENT:
Blueprint Magazine
Montgomery Exhibitions Ltd.

AREA:
120 m²

CONCEPT:
The form of the Blueprint Pavilion 95 was derived from a desire to create a continuous space, expressing the circulation of visitors, as well as unifying the products, some of which are inherently part of the pavilion, in a cohesive whole. The space within the structure is defined by a continuous plate folding upon itself to create two interlocking beams. The plate becomes the exhibition area within which the objects are curated.

The origin/end of the plate folded into a low table, within the surface of which a light table made of Abet translucent material is cut-out, will serve as the display stand for Blueprint magazine itself. Vitra furniture occupies the floor of the lower beam, Elementer ironmongery is cast in a resin panel suspended away from the wall along the stair, while a variety of its recessed lighting is displayed in a constellation on the ceiling. On the back wall of the upper beam, CP Hart bathroom accessory objects are displayed on a stainless steel wall recessed into the thickness of the wall. The remainder of the objects are diplayed in an ordered continuous beam. These objects are: bathroom fixtures by CP Hart, three perspex boxes containing a display of various signs by HB Signs, tables and storage cabinets by architect Jean Nouvel and manufactured by Unifor/Ergonom, and a cross suspended in space made of toilet partitions by Thislington. The entirety of the structural and architectural steel is provided by British Steel. The carpeting is provided by Vorwerk, inside the pavilion itself as well as throughout the entirety of the site. On the exterior, the folded plate is clad with British Steel Strip Product on the high beam and with Abet Laminates on the low beam.
